Yesterday afternoon, at the Bob Kerry Pedestrian Bridge, which connects Omaha, Nebraska, and Council Bluffs, Iowa, about 150 people came together to commemorate and celebrate the one-year anniversary of the Iowa Supreme Court decision upholding gay marriage.
Here are about 50 photos I took:

It was a lovely day here, low-60s, sunny and clear. Groups at the NE and the IA end of the bridge rallied, then met at the middle of the bridge (which is also the state line), with the river flowing beneath them. In a symbolic act, community leaders from IA and NE reached across the state line, joined hands in solidarity, and threw up a cheer for gay marriage and the continuing struggle for justice in America. The contingent then walked to the Nebraska side of the bridge, where they held a 45 minute rally, featuring an IA Democratic state legislator, a Republican Council Bluffs City Council member, one of the six couples who brought the legal action resulting in the court decision, a Nebraska minister, and several other gay rights advocates and allies. One of the sub-themes of the event was to encourage Nebraska to follow its neighbor by legalizing gay marriage.

If you support marriage equality, but live in a state that currently prohibits gay marriage, you can honor the 1-year anniversary of Iowa's historic Supreme Court decision by writing, calling and emailing your local, state and federal representatives to tell them that you would like to see your state join Iowa in recognizing the equal rights of all citizens and legalize same sex marriage. Spread the word...
