This is the sad reality that happens when the ideology of Rush Limbaugh meets the Corporatist Theocratic Governance of C Street's The Family, as administered by Republican Congresswoman Jo Ann Emerson (C Street-MO08)
The district is the poorest in Missouri and one of the 10 poorest in the United States.
One in every four children is born under the poverty line.
The median income for women is the lowest out of all 435 districts.
It is in the bottom 10-15% in terms of health and primary care facilities and access to education.

More below the fold
This should paint a clear picture of what C Street Corporatist governance and the dystopian visionary leadership of Millionaire radio blowhard Rush Limbaugh has to offer.
Yesterday I had the privilege of speaking to Congressional candidate and Green Beret Major Tommy Sowers, who is running for Congress in Rush Limbaugh's home district, which is represented ( if you can call it that ) in the House by 10 yr incumbent and resident C Streeter Republican Jo Ann Emerson.
First, allow me to let Candidate Sowers speak for himself.
Tommy Sowers on being a teacher
Tommy Sowers on being a soldier
Tommy Sowers on being a citizen
Tommy Sowers told me that he greatly admires Teddy Roosevelt and has a Teddy Roosevelt bandanna from 1912 above his desk in his office. Though Tommy is the first to admit that he is not the perfect progressive, I don't think anyone is, since there are so many different definitions of what, exactly, a progressive is, but as far as Tommy Sowers is concerned, I don't think we could do any better than to send this brave teacher/soldier/citizen to Congress in 2010 to represent the 8th District of the great "Show Me" state of Missouri.
Tommy Sowers with current Democratic Senator Claire McCaskill
As for Tommy's competition, he is up against Congresswoman Jo Ann Emerson of C Street in Rush Limbaugh's own district! Talk about a chance of taking out two gooney birds with one stone!
A bit of background on Jo Ann Emerson and her history of corrupt Corporatist baloney.
Fiscally Conservative with her own money, but very loose with other people's money.
Apparently, Jo Ann Emerson assumed no one would examine her spending. On her routine Federal Election Commission reports, in broad daylight, it is clear that Mrs. Emerson likes to spend other peoples' money at some of the most expensive stores in the world.
She has spent about $6,000 at Tiffany's & Co. on "Political Gifts" over the last ten years. That she would spend about a quarter of what her average constituent earns in a year on expensive gifts is one thing. But there are dozens of jewelers in the 8th Congressional District that would be happy to take her business.
She has spent around $7,500 at other upscale boutiques, such as LL Bean, Neiman Marcus and Coach, claiming them as "Political Gifts", comprising what an average family makes in her district in four months.
What she does with her own money is her own business. But what she does with others’, whether that is her own contributors', or with the taxpayers', is ours. Last month, the Wall Street Journal profiled her lavish spending of taxpayer dollars. You can read about it here.
This doesn’t represent fiscally conservative values, Missouri values or even common sense. It represents the worst of Washington—assuming that because she has a "safe seat" that she can act this reckless and assume that she’ll still have peoples' votes. It is time for a representative that doesn’t assume a vote, but fights for it.

Oh, and C Street connections just like disgraced sitting Senator John Ensign (R-NV) and Governor Mark Sanford (R-SC)? But of course!
Today's roll call is just as impressive: Men (and women )under the Family's religio-political counsel include . . .
Jo Ann Emerson (R-MO08)

some small editorializing done by the diarist
Yup, the people who think that Unions = Satan back Jo Ann Emerson. The spiritual leadership that thinks it is okay for C Streeters to rape children because they are chosen by God to be "special" and thus regular laws don't apply to them are in Congresswoman Emerson's corner. Imagine if that spiritual leader was Reverend Wright instead of Douglas Coe! Certainly the sky would have fallen already.
Jo Ann Emerson used to be a lobbyist before she took her husband's Congressional seat. More background on the revolving door between the Emerson's and their lobbyist careers can be found here at sourcewatch.org
So here is our choice. We can work to support great Progressives like Tommy Sowers AND drive Rush Limbaugh and C Street crazy, or we can do nothing and let them win. I choose to fight! Teddy Kennedy would have fought, Teddy Roosevelt would have fought, and Tommy Sowers WILL fight for his Constituents if he is elected to Congress this November if we can give him the support to do so.
I am in. How about you?

We can FIGHT BACK and support a great candidate like Tommy Sowers, or we can let the Rush/C Street paradise in Missouri's 8th district continue to be a nightmare for working class families who deserve better. I say we fight for More and Better! The best part is it will drive Rush Limbaugh and C Street crazy! It is a two for one WIN/WIN!
So who wants to help make Rush Limbaugh cry, piss off C Street AND elect a great Democratic Candidate like Tommy Sowers?
Let's get some inspirational music for this one. You want MORE and BETTER? Than I want you to FIGHT, DAMMIT!
Cause Mickey loves ya!
Peace
