Something wonderful happens today, baseball starts. Well I guess technically it started last night if you are a Yankee or Sox fan. But I'm "old school" when it comes to baseball and opening day is when all the teams play, not just two.
Baseball might be about as close to a religion as I get. My 94 year old grandfather still to this day likes to mention that in the summer of 1969 when I was still in my mother's womb, he'd hold up a radio to her stomach so I could hear Jack Buck call a Cardinals game on KMOX. He wanted to ensure I didn't become a Cubs fan :).
Heck for the first 15 or so years of my life I am not sure a single summer night passed without me playing catch in the backyard with my father. Sometimes with my mom. People still do that right?
Now it is time to get the season started. Kind of consider this an open thread to talk baseball if you so desire.
My Cardinals are stacked this year. The best player in baseball (IMHO) in Albert Pujols. Two of the best pitchers in baseball in Chris Carpenter and Adam Wainwright. We got high hopes for Brad Penny. Oh and we locked in Matt Holliday to a long term deal to hit behind Pujols. This should be a good year on many different levels.
I just hope our team (and your team) stays healthy and maybe we could get a Cards/Yankees World Series this year. That would make me a very happy person on many different levels.
So which team do you love. Which team do you love to hate (the Cubs for me).
Lets talk some baseball.
