Examining the US Senate race, Sen. John Kerry today endorsed Sen. Arlen Specter for re-election in his hotly contested primary with Joe Sestak.
Kerry, the 2004 Presidential nominee said that issues relating to Rep. Sestak's military service are for the media to investigate:
"I cannot serve as a referee. That's an issue for the candidates to address and the media to investigate."
Sen. John Kerry urges the media to investigate the issue about Rep. Sestak being relieved of duty due to poor command climate. Sestak says Specter's commerical is a lie despite a 2005 Navy Times article written
well before Sestak even decided to run for Congress.
The media cannot "investigate" as Kerry suggests because Sestak refuses to release his official Navy records, which would cofirm or deny the allegation (he's contending is a lie). Anyone in their right minds with any common sense can see that Sestak is stonewalling presumably because of what those records say and that is becoming increasingly obvious.
Kerry said of fellow veteran Specter:
"I have known Arlen for 25 years and I know his character and the quality of his service to Pennsylvania," Kerry said. "I've worked with him on stem cell research and twenty first century infrastructure, and when he left the Republican Party he reaffirmed his independence once again. ... He's a fighter and a friend, and I am proud to vouch for his character."
Sestak for his part stonewalled and dodged releasing his records when asked directly to do so by Chris Mathews. Kerry noted:
"What troubled me most about the 2004 smears was that lies were permitted to pollute the public dialogue even after they were thoroughly and publicly disproven by the Navy's own records," the former Democratic presidential nominee said.
Sestak is refusing to allow the Navy records to be released, presumably because they contain info he does not want to see about his behavior. By not releasing the records, the public cannot prove or disprove those.
