Not too many events sparked my interest for "this day in history," so tonight's edition will be strictly a "Happy Birthday!" one.
Walt Whitman was born on this date in 1819. He was bohemian before bohemian was...well...BOHEMIAN - "Oh, Captain - my Captain!" Harvey Keitel is 71 today!
Little Stevie Wonder is 60 today. Man, the Obama 2008 POTUS campaign wouldn't have been quite as fun without his music! :)
And, even though I know she won't read this, happy birthday to one of my OLDER sisters! Hell, I'm the youngest, so they're all OLDER - HA!
Let's Countdown!
{Technical difficulties made me miss about the first 5 minutes of the show – a thousand apologies! *&^%$#@!}
#5 "Slick Operator" AKA "Crude Methods" AKA "Whistleblower VS. Blowout Preventer" - OK, I came onto the scene with Keith discussing the fact that apparently Senator Menendez thinks BP’s liability needs to be tweaked because the current law dates back to the 19th century & has no bearing on what’s happening in the Gulf now or what could happen any place else. Here’s Ezra Klein to talk oil. TransOcean is trying to weasel out of their part in this ilk?
Say it ain’t so! Court procedures when something like the Gulf spill happens can drag out for a l...o...n...g time, and a lot of people just can’t keep paying the legal fees. On the other side is a law that caps liability at a ridiculously low amount. Senator Menendez wants to up the limit. Senator Murkowski is concerned about "mom and pop" off – shore oil drilling?! SAY WHAT??!! What we pay for gas does not cover all the cost to get the oil. Ezra called the Senate a "...hippie commune"? HA!
{OK...more technical difficulties...missed the rest of the segment...I’m about to tell my cable company what dark & stinky orifice they can stick their DVR system in!}
#4 "Breaking News" - Faisal Shahzad may have had a few accomplices in his attempted Times Square bombing; men have been arrested all over the place – including Pakistan. President Obama visited police headquarters in "the Big Apple" to thank them for all their good investigative work. In the mean time, both the GOP & Dems are taking issue with the fact that New York City is on deck to get a CUT in their funding for anti – terrorism. That’s just great! Great timing on THAT announcement, ya’ NIMRODS!
Senator Kit Bond took a little nappy – poo during a meeting about the Times Square bombing? Jonathan Alter gets to talk "terror" tonight. New York City did apparently get an increase in funding earlier via the stimulus, but since it’s now looking unlikely that KSM & his ilk are going to be tried in New York City for their part in the 9/11 attacks, the previous funding is being scaled back. Jonathan said that an attack in Kansas is not likely. Didn’t he see The Day After??!! ;D On a more serious note, who would’ve thunk an office building in Oklahoma City would be a target? DICK criticized cops? CLASSY! But, I expect nothing more (or less) from "him."
** AAaaaaaaaWWWWwwwww!!!! Look at the cute little baby Swiss bear with its Mommy!!!!!! TEH CUTE – IT BURNZ!! The Cubbies farm club asked an Olympic athlete to throw out the first pitch – GADZOOKS! Man, I could’ve done WAY MORE BETTERER!! **
#3 "Arizona Protests" AKA "RNC Hearts Tampa" AKA "Protests & Boycotts" - The 2012 GOP hate fest...er...uh... convention is going to be in Tampa, FL. Phoenix was in the running, and the person in charge of selecting the locale took great pains to say that the new "Show Me Your Papers" state’s immigration law had NOTHING to do with Phoenix losing out. If anyone else believes that, they are invited to join me in requesting that St. Sarah from Wasilla friend me on Facebook! ;D Tampa’s the lap dance capitol of the world?! YEA! More lesbian bondage clubs!!
Salt Lake City was apparently in the running, too. Do they have an icky immigration law, too, or is their ilk just confined to laws in other states that let gay people get married? Phoenix’s Mayor requested a study of just how much coin the city could lose because of all the xenophobia going on. 4 events have already been cancelled; $90,000,000 could be going down the Grand Canyon. At least a dozen other events MIGHT cancel, and the lost revenue could cause
a near economic crisis.
Huh...just what people need in a $hitacular economy! St. Sarah from Wasilla took issue with an IL girl’s basketball team that decided to just say no in going to play in the "Show Me Your Papers" state. Governor Jan Brewer has also signed a law severely restricting ethnic studies classes. Heaven forbid learning about another culture or people!
And, there’s a protest already at the state board of education site. Here’s Kyrsten Sinema from the "Show Me Your Papers" state legislature; I bet she’s proud these days. *&^%$#@! The "gentleman" who wrote the ethnic studies class legislation wants to be the "Show Me Your Papers" state’s next AG. Huh...go figure... I actually heard an interview with him on NPR today; he’s just a hoot! Here’s a link to the interview today for your reading and/or hearing "pleasure." ;D
"Tea Time" Tea baggers were supposed to massively rally in NC by forming a human chain around a building in the capitol. Uh...I don’t see a chain; around 50 people showed up. Another protest was supposed to be at Bank of America. 7 showed up.
WPITW – A Washington Post TV critic took a pot – shot at Allison Stewart. A NV road sign company needs to hire a spell checker! St. Sarah from Wasilla was in Rosemont, IL; she took a pot – shot at Rachel Maddow & "joked" about visiting MSNBC. Her speechifying was sponsored by a back – up sump pump company – HA!
#1 "Black on Beck" - My sides hurt after I watched Lewis Black DISMANTLE Lonesome Rhodes on TDS last night; that man is GOOD! And, how great is it that he did it on George Carlin’s birthday?! Somewhere, he is smiling!
