As mentioned by Jed in this front page post and on 60 minutes last night, there is another BP disaster looming in the gulf and its name is Atlantis. Since last year, Food & Water Watch has been working to shut down this rig that is missing significant critical paperwork. If this rig were to blow, it would dwarf the current Horizon catastrophe.
Last year a whistleblower told Food & Water Watch that that Atlantis lacked proper safety documentation.
As laid out on Food & Water Watch's spill the truth website:
* A BP database showed that it doesn't have the required engineer-approved and up-to-date documents for 90 percent of the drawings for its below water components.
* More than 6,000 documents did not have engineering approval- including those for pipelines, flowlines, wellheads, and other important systems.
* Over 95 percent of its subsea welding specifications lack final engineering approval.
Atlantis poses a huge safety risk and could cause a bigger spill than the Exxon Valdez in just two days. It would be many times bigger than the Deepwater Horizon Spill.
Today, Food & Water Watch filed suit to shut it down, but we shouldn't have to wait for the courts to act. Tell President Obama its time to shut it down. Take action, see video, and get more information at www.spillthetruth.org.
