Fed up with BP and all their BS in this oil spill mess? You - We - are of course, not alone - about as not alone as not alone can be. Now we just need to keep our sights - and the sights of "mainstream America" - firmly set on the true villains in this true life horror story, taking aim and firing away at them in as many politically active ways as we can.
Yes, the Obama administration has misdeeds and mistakes to account for when it comes to dealing with Big Oil, perhaps worst of all the failure to tear apart and rebuild an ethical, functional new version of the corrupted Minerals Management Service within that first year in the White House. That would have been Change we believed in. But Obama owned up to that screw-up and others in his big oil spill press conference.
Going after Obama and his administration over Afghanistan, Iraq, weak-kneed financial reform...those are all fair game fronts on which to challenge and push this moderate President to do better. But on the oil spill front, it is time to get public attention and anger squarely re-focused on BP and Big Oil.
As most of the mainstream media - and much of the blogosphere - have increasingly focused on the White House angle of the oil spill story, "Main Street" perceptions of Obama as part of the problem, rather than the solution, have hardened.
And if those perceptions do fully harden, the Right Wing will have notched another victory in its relentless campaign to defame and deconstruct this Democratic president, successfully framing BP's Oil Spill as Obama's Katrina.
Leave it to the South Florida Raging Grannies to strike just the right angry note, targeting the real Bad Guys in a scathing new song parody, "BP's Friggin' Drillin' Rigs" - which they've now turned into a wild two-minute "viral" music video on YouTube.
Tell me it doesn't feel good to sing along with them on the chorus...
