They just don't know it yet.
The union group SEIU launched a video ad condemning Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas of voting to "help George Bush and Dick Cheney give oil and gas companies over $14 billion in tax breaks" by way of three votes she cast (one in 2003, two in 2005)
If we follow this logic, the union also blasted Obama, who voted the exact same way as Lincoln in both 2005 bills (He was not yet a Senator in 2003, as you know). An overwhelming majority of all Democrats also sided with Lincoln in all three instances. Why doesn't the advertising add that Lincoln "helped Democrats give oil and gas companies...etc. etc.?) as well?
Easy. SEIU loves Obama.
Interestingly, SEIU chose to endorse.....(drumroll)....Barack Obama in 2008 over Hillary Clinton, who voted Nay twice, in opposition to the super-evil Blanche Lincoln. I guess these votes were not that outrageous after all.
Another problem is that the $14 million figure is a falsehood, as the number refers to tax breaks given not only to oil companies, but also to alternative energy entities (hybrid cars, clean coal, wind energy, etc.)
The video also claims that gas prices hovered around $4.00 per gallon at the moment, when in fact the number was $2.22.
There's more. In a separate ad, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) claimed that Lincoln has received "millions" from Big Oil, when the number is not even a million ( $558,375, according to the Center for Responsive Politics).
Not surprisingly, the AFSCME clip was praised here in the Daily Kos, in a diary titled "AFSCME's AD On Blanche Lincoln Is So Devastating, It Gives You Glee" calling it "brutally honest."
This is, after all, the Daily Kos.
I am personally rooting for Halter. Let's not make up our own facts, though.
