In lieu of massive political posturing and re-writers of history trying to actually write the story, we must now take a TIME OUT to recap the events of the last few days -
A. Faizal Shahzad and thugs in Pakistan attempt to succeed as terrorists when Shahzad leaves a smoldering car bomb on 45th street in New York.
B. Within 53 hours, Faizal Shahzad and his thug friends prove to be MAJOR FAILURES as car bomb is diffused and Shahzad is caught and sent to the clinker. WINNERS - you and me=us, USA, NYPD,FBI,NYC, BARACK OBAMA etc...
Follow me----
Yes the would be terrorist was caught and the bomb was diffused, but the biggest success by law enforcement, FBI, New York and Obama, despite what Eric Cantor and other political mud throwers would have you believe, is in how this happened and how the actual feeling of "terror" was not invited upon us by our leaders in the form of "TERROR ALERTS" and "TERROR SPEAK" (remember Bush and imagine him in this situation, uh huh...we would be attacking Pakistan today!).
This is another example of CHANGE folks CHANGE WE CAN SEE!( and we should milk it in the coming elections!)
Here there was communication across agencies and from the citizenry in the form of the hot dog vendor all the way to the FBI. And then according to this morning's New York Times;
Exactly how long investigators had him under surveillance is unclear. But officials said investigators watched him come home and go inside his house. He emerged later to get back in his car, headed south.
If he was caught in hour 53 at the airport, I estimate they where watching his moves by at least by hour 48. Why they didn't move in on him then is simple, they where letting him dig a deeper hole for himself!
Of course the Times can not resist creating some intrigue by stating;
It seems clear, according to interviews with a variety of officials, the investigators must have lost track of Mr. Shahzad at some point. He made it all the way down the jetway and into his seat.
But really it would have been tough to lose him on the way to the airport from CT since its pretty much all heavy trafficked slow highways right to the airport from there and a tedious ordeal getting there, parking your car, security check point etc... (take it from my experience driving that route and going through the process) So I think rather that the FBI gave him a leash, let him go a bit ahead, and get on the plane to establish intent, to build a stronger case. Yes he got on board the plane to Dubai, but the plane never even got on the runway!
Before the plane pulled away from the gate, though, investigators had caught up with him. He was taken out of his seat and into custody.
Take that Eric Cantor. You are truly an Asshole!
Thank you all who helped in those 53 hours.
And thank you Barack Obama.
