Yesterday, over 100 grassroots labor activists from OH 18 gathered in Newcomerstown OH to send a message to Zack Space (D OH 18) about being the lone Ohio Democratic to vote against health care reform. Four unions (CWA,SEIU,UAW and UFCW), representing over 300,000 members and retirees in Ohio, gathered their grassroots activists from OH 18 to send a united message that all of the people that knocked on doors, made phone calls etc in 2006 and 2008 would be taking their activist energy elsewhere in 2010.

My union, the Communications Workers of America, had to rebuild our grassroots political program after members were discouraged by people that we helped elect giving us NAFTA and other bad trade deals while failing to pass health care or labor law reform. We promised our members that we were not simply going to elect people any more, but work to hold them accountable for what they promised.
Space campaigned as a supporter of health care reform. He said, " the status quo is unacceptable". He voted for the first house bill, but when the final vote took place---after it was too late for a primary challenge--he voted both against the Senate Bill and the companion bill that fixed the problems.
