Americans have a deep mistrust of government not because "government" is broken, but because our leaders do things like this:
The Republican alternative to the tax extenders bill would have extended unemployment benefits and offset the cost with budget cuts so steep it "would essentially shut down much of the federal government for the last two and a half months of this fiscal year," according to the CBPP.
A political ploy, the GOP knows those cuts can't be made so instead they hold Americans hostage, the very people they claim the are worried about. They are prepared to sacrifice millions of people and possibly plunge this country into a depression all for political advantage.
Make no mistake, this is NOT about deficits, this is politics at its worse. Anytime you cut a bill by 80% and still can't pick up votes, that's politics not fiscal policy:
The Senate cut $25 per week from every unemployment check and shortened the so-called "Doc Fix" to six months, and on Wednesday Dem leaders trimmed another $8 billion by reducing the Medicaid assistance. The bill has shrunk over the past few weeks from $190 billion, to $80 billion, to $55 billion, to just over $30 billion in the current Senate version.
It's shameful and disgusting...something is very wrong with this country.
