Let's pray that Abigail Obermiller, who recently disappeared, soon returns home without harm.
Having said that, I want statistics. What is the percentage of non-caucasian females who disappear in the United States? Is it consistent with the 0% of minority missing women shown on TV and newspapers? I highly doubt it.
I once found a Texas link showing that minority women (African American, Hispanic, Asian) are kidnapped more frequently than caucasian ones. I have lost the link, but I challenge any of you to find national statistics or any other state's statistics regarding kidnappings or disappearances.
If the media believes that white girls make better models, better actresses, etc., fine. Have a white-only universe in those fields. But we are talking about crimes in which media exposure can heighten the likelihood of a missing person being found. And the media is only helping caucasian victims. If you are black or Hispanic and you go missing, good luck.
I came to this country in 1995, and in these 15 years I have seen only white girls featured in media outlets among the disappeared.
UPDATE:
Race/Ethnicity of Missing Children
White, Non-Hispanic= 428,800 (54%)
Black, Non- Hispanic= 149,700 (19%)
Hispanic= 163,900 (21%)
Other= 52,100 (7%)
