Someone at the White House decided to call Politico's Ben Smith to say that "Organized labor just flushed $10 million of their members' money down the toilet on a pointless exercise."
Two things:
You're wrong.
You're an idiot.
Democrats and Republicans are to blame for our current economic woes. Is one party to blame more than the other? I think so, but I think everyone can agree that both parties are to blame. Is the biggest reason that Clinton signed into law the dismantling of Glass-Steagall? Or the Republicans that pushed it? Or was it the lack of regulation by the administration of George W. Bush? 5000 other reasons? Who cares. Both parties are to blame for the loss of -- and the amount of course is in dispute -- many millions, hundreds of millions, billions, some say trillions of dollars.
Blanche Lincoln is one of too many members of Congress who has done far too little to help the people of their state and this country. Six months ago, very few people had even heard of Bill Halter. With help from many groups and individuals, including organized labor, he nearly beat an entrenched incumbent, certainly moved her to the left (if only temporarily), and sent a clear message to those in power that if they betray their constituents, there will be consequences. Sometimes they'll get away with it, and those consequences will be perspiration only. Sometimes they won't get away with it. Hopefully, since they don't know, they won't try to get away with it at all.
It's moderately disgusting when someone from the White House anonymously calls the media to gloat about a corporate Democrat winning a primary. And that anonymous weasel is wrong. This exercise proved a serious point: betray the people, and you'll be praying on election night that the pre-election polls, which showed you losing, turn in your favor. If you think democracy is a pointless exercise, I have no use for you, because you are an idiot.
