My first diary.
There will be no second stimulus package -- and we have a huge unemployment problem that looks to go long term.
I was reading Atrios yesterday and he noted a very simple way to put people to work is on environmental projects, like paint black roofs silver or white.
But the government is not going to act to do it. And there are people in need.
Could we act? Could environmental organizations sponsor employment projects?
So, an environmental group establishes an employment project in the cities and suburbs to paint roofs and other fairly low skilled jobs. The organization then solicits donations from individuals and corporations to pay salaries. The government helps by allowing the donations to be tax deductible. Corporations could donate materials or provide lower cost materials.
We could put thousands of people to work with such a plan, encourage people to give, and actually make a dent in global warming...
