Earlier this week, I posted a diary detailing the Utah State Government-funded Synapse study on the use of coal power in Utah, its costs in terms of lives and money, and the predictable response of the State. As promised, I just wanted to follow up on our Utah Physicians for a Healthy Environment (UPHE) meeting and ask a favor of the community.
The meeting went well, and was attended by myself and one other Kossack, jlms qkw (thanks again for coming, nothing really productive happened after you left!). The bottom line is that UPHE plans to hold a press conference regarding this study, and three Wasatch front educational forums on the dangers of airborne pollution.
The question I would like to ask the community is, as we discuss our response to this study, does anyone have examples they can point me to of successful actual displacement of coal power with renewables/energy efficiency? I'm curious as to how other communities have dealt with transitioning to cleaner power. Please leave in comments if you can point me to examples, thanks!
