The Young Trade Unionists -- a group of young labor activists in Baltimore -- are looking at finding new ways to tap into the energy and commitment of the next generation of workers to grow the labor movement.
As they describe themselves on their Web site:
We are a new group of young union members in the Metro Baltimore-Washington DC area who meet to educate on the history of the labor movement, discuss current labor issues and focus on solutions. Please join us on the first Monday of every month.
Recently the IBEW went to find out more about the Young Trade Unionists and their work. Check it out.
Right now, one their top goals is to register 1,000 new voters in the state of Maryland in time for the 2010 election. They will be kicking off their first registration drive July 17. To get involved, go to youngtradeunionists.org.
