One week after the Breitbart Hoax caused Shirley Sherrod to be fired from her job and right-wingers are at it again.
For those who were asleep for the last ten days, let's recap: A known con artist by the name of Andrew Breitbart saw fit to peddle a doctored video of a USDA employee named Shirley Sherrod giving a speech to a local NAACP chapter. The video was doctored in a way to make it appear as though Sherrod was bragging that she had discriminated against a white farmer. The Obama administration showed a yellow streak a mile wide and fired her because they fear Glenn Beck. To their credit, they are offering to re-hire Sherrod.
Now it's Oliver Stone's turn to get the Breitbart treatment...
The smear is the allegation that Oliver Stone told the Sunday Times of London that Jews controlled the U.S. media and this was preventing an open discussion of the Nazi Holocaust, World War Two and the repression that took place under Stalin.
Like the smear campaign orchestrated against Judge Richard Goldstone, the smear campaign against Stone originated among the usual suspects: right-wing mouth-breathers and Israel Firsters. A quick Google search shows the story is being pimped by, among others:
NewsMax, a birther site
Jeffrey Goldberg, a former guard at a torture chamber
Pajamas Media, a racist hate site
Such credible sources!
There's one rather glaring problem with this story: No one has produced an authenticated quote from Stone himself. Supposedly it comes from the Sunday Times, yet no such quote appears at the site.
Here's a simple challenge to everyone who is currently slandering Oliver Stone: Post proof or retract. Put up or shut up. Either produce the full quote in context where Oliver Stone says the media is run by "the Jews" for some nefarious purpose or apologize. Until someone can verify that Stone said something anti-Semitic (which is unlikely, given his own Jewish background) I'm calling bullshit on this whole story.
One problem liars, charlatans and other hucksters have is that in the age of Google, people can check out their claims and see if they're lying. That's what saved Shirley Sherrod and exposed Breitbart for the con artist he is within 24 hours of her firing. I can't speak for "we" but I know I won't be fooled again -especially not by Andrew Breitbart and those who miscreants who emulate him. Enough is enough!
