I am tired of the lambasting of President Obama and the Democrats. Sure, the Senate Conservadems suck! But, just think how much worse America would suck for the overwhelming majority of us if Republicans were still in charge!
We have 24/7/365 Obama and Dem bashing by most of the media--the Republican propaganda outlet--FOX and most of talk radio. Add onto that, the false equivalency providers in CNN and others that provide imbalance. To top it off, many of those who are "progressive" bash them, too. Hey, all three of you groups at least have one thing in common--demoralize those who would vote Democratic this election cycle.
Obama and the Democrats have done much the first two years in office. Lily Ledbetter Act for equal pay, Health Insurance Reform, Financial Reform, a Stimulus that saved us from a Depression, two decent Supreme Court justices and much, much more. But, we still have a long way to go. We don't get there by driving down the vote, we get there by having people get out to vote and for the Democratic Party. Sure, some Democratic Reps and Senators are not too much better than the Republicans, but they are better than the Republicans.
The Republican strategy has been to obstruct and say "no". The Republican strategy has been to demoralize us and fire up their base. In a certain sense, we have been willing idiots in demoralizing our base. I don't know about you, but I remember the 8 years under Bush, with 6 of total Republican control. Those were the worst 8 years of my life. Do we really want to let the Republicans have any kind of power after these elections?
The Republicans have proven they do not want to run government. They want to use government to enrich themselves and their friends and screw us. They have proven that time and time again, from Nixon to Reagan to Bush I and Bush II. In the meantime, they had the Contract on America in 1994 and did whatever they could for a 6 year time frame to harm the Clinton Presidency. Is that what we want? I don't. I think it is time to encourage people to vote for the Democratic Party candidates. Or, if you can't do that, at least scare the hell out of your voters with the truth about the Republicans--greedy people who care about enriching corporations, endless wars, torture and destroying the middle class. We have seen it in full force since Reagan.
So, we can fall for the right wing election trap and stay home or we can get out the vote and continue on this long haul to a better world.
