New Zealand has banned shechita, the brutal and inhumane kosher slaughter of animals.
The country’s new animal welfare code, which took effect May 28, has banned the barbaric practice.
Reports The Jewish Week:
"The country’s new animal welfare code, which took effect Friday, mandates that all animals for commercial consumption be stunned prior to slaughter to ensure they are treated ‘humanely and in accordance with good practice and scientific knowledge.’"
This is a victory for animal rights, as New Zealand joins Iceland, Norway and Sweden in banning the barbaric shechita.
