I don't really have just one thing to harp on, but I just got back from the big D and thought I'd share some random experiences and thoughts.
Join me on the flip side.
First, Dallas is a beautiful city. It's not as big as I thought it would be, but it was clean and fairly diverse. I stayed at the Adam's Mark Hotel Downtown. It was an okay hotel, I suppose. Nothing spectacular, but plenty serviceable.
The sixth floor museum wasn't nearly as interesting as the guys outside. Man, talk about your conspiracy nuts. I talked to a guy named Sherman who had never ending stories. I know he had a point in there somewhere, but I don't think he ever got to it. There were some facts that they strung together to make it sound like there was no way LHW could've been the shooter. Personally, I think he was one of several shooters. First off, I just don't buy the fact that Jack Ruby would shoot the guy just so the First Lady wouldn't have to go through the trial. I mean, for chrissake, he was a strip club owner. I doubt his conscious was that strong.
One interesting note, I never realized that the Presidential convoy wasn't scheduled to take the route they took.
Another interesting note about the museum. There was a flier that right wingers had put up about Kennedy. It read "Wanted for Treason" and went on about how he sent Federal troops into sovereign states, was too soft on communism and turned over our government to the United Nations. I guess it's true, the more things change, the more they stay the same.
On another note, I talked to a dude from Iran. He was over hear because he was involved with the students' movement for Democracy. He was an atheist. He seemed like a pretty smart and cool guy, but he thought the war in Iraq was good for everybody. He also said that if Bush invaded Iran, he'd be a Republican for life.
In case you didn't know, Iranians are not Arabs. They'd be insulted if you thought they were.
Finally, upon my return, I was talking to a commodities broker (this really has nothing to do with Dallas). He fully expects natural gas prices to shoot up 113%.
We also talked about how the Japanese and Chinese were keeping the dollar up so we could afford to buy their products. Apparently, until we can save money, we'll be in this boat for awhile. I guess that will involve the Federal Reserve raising interest rates.
Finally, for a state that claims "Everything is bigger in Texas," Texas Stadium, home of the Cowboys, sure looked small.
That's it.
