More than 308,000 jobs were created last month. This is great news for the unemployed (which includes me). But being political aficionados, what does it mean for us politically?
It remains to be seen, of course, whether the jobs momentum will persist or it is just a one-time blip. I'd bet on the former, since labor markets tend to move in smooth trends without brief aberrations.
If I remember correctly, the single best predictor of a president's re-election is the job creation rate in the spring of the election year. In other words, now. This has held true for at least the last five elections, I think.
Will we lose the jobs issue?
