There's a new TV show coming out that I saw commercials for called "Who the Bleep Did I Marry" where spouses come forward with incredible tales of marrying people that they later found out were totally different than who they thought they were. In light of Gibb's scathing dismissal of all things progressive, I think about 50 million people are now wondering "Who the Bleep Did I Vote For?"
Now of course I have been writing diaries for months about my disappointment in Barack Obama, diaries that have been received with much scorn and abuse. Some of that is of course due to the fact that I am not one of the "heavy hitters" around here, by which I mean a guy who has millions of comments and posts about so many things and for so long that he becomes acknowledged as a "Board Leader", an internet phenomenon whereby people who are usually ignored in "real life" suddenly have a following composed of obsequious sycophants, etc. But a lot of the criticism was from genuinely outraged progressives that felt I wasn't giving Obama a chance! "Give him time! It's not easy what he's doing, and the GOP is No-ing him to death!"
When I said in a diary that I am shocked by how quickly Obama turned his back on The Movement that got him elected and squandered the momentum for change that he had on Day One of his presidency, I was shouted down! "It's too soon! Be quiet! He'll do great things!" So, Health Care came and went and the President didn't lift a finger to get REAL health care for anyone, no public option, nothing but a huge giveaway to the insurance companies that have been ripping us off for years. "Give him time! It's early!" So I sat back and watched him take on Wall Street and the Banksters...and he did so by hiring a bunch of Goldman Sachs foxes to police the hen house, rather than getting some real REFORMERS in there to insure that We Won't Get Fooled Again. "Oh, shut up! Please, he got us some reform! Give him time!" And so it went that when the oil well blew and I mentioned that gee, this was kind of a Bush-ian Katrina response, and some of them howled at me even louder! And when I pointed out that this President absolutely blew a golden opportunity and in the course of a little over one year has gone from being an Agent of Change to A Member of the Status Quo Establishment that needs TO BE changed, once again the cognoscenti here were outraged!
And then spoke Kenneth Gibbs the other day. And suddenly it all makes perfect sense. Obama is not who we thought he was. It's as simple as that. And when I wrote in one of my Diaries that not a lot has really changed and the new boss is a lot like the old boss; oh, maybe he talks better and he isn't as stupid as Bush, but look around you and tell me how much real change you see. The big corporations are still shipping jobs overseas and screwing the Middle Class and we're still fighting two wars, and where's the CHANGE, man? Oh hell, did I ever get ripped for saying THAT! But then Gibbs spoke the other day and it all becomes clear to me now. What has become clear? Well, this feeling, of course! The feeling of "Who the Bleep did I Vote For"?
EDIT: Oh I'm SORRY! His name is ROBERT GIBBS, not Kenneth! Ya'll can just disregard the whole thing, ok? It's obvious I don't have the slightest idea of what I'm talking about if I can make that kind of mistake.
