So Sarah wants to be president. The queen of Twitter who launched a campaign to "refudiate" the "9/11 mosque" is now demanding that President Obama join her war on religious liberty:
We all know that they have the right to do it, but should they? This is not above your pay grade.
No dimwit, bullying religious minorities is something the American president is paid not to do!
Besides that whole "free exercise" and "establishment clause" claptrap, what does Sarah's favorite founding father have to say? I think I can hear his voice now...
Shut your piehole, you dumb twat.
But then there's the actual physical record George Washington left behind:
To the Hebrew Congregation in Newport Rhode Island.
Gentlemen,
While I receive, with much satisfaction, your Address replete with expressions of affection and esteem; I rejoice in the opportunity of assuring you, that I shall always retain a grateful remembrance of the cordial welcome I experienced in my visit to Newport, from all classes of Citizens.
The reflection on the days of difficulty and danger which are past is rendered the more sweet, from a consciousness that they are succeeded by days of uncommon prosperity and security. If we have wisdom to make the best use of the advantages with which we are now favored, we cannot fail, under the just administration of a good Government, to become a great and happy people.
The Citizens of the United States of America have a right to applaud themselves for having given to mankind examples of an enlarged and liberal policy: a policy worthy of imitation. All possess alike liberty of conscience and immunities of citizenship. It is now no more that toleration is spoken of, as if it was by the indulgence of one class of people, that another enjoyed the exercise of their inherent national gifts. For happily the Government of the United States, which gives to bigotry no sanction, to persecution no assistance requires only that they who live under its protection should demean themselves as good citizens, in giving it on all occasions their effectual support.
It would be inconsistent with the frankness of my character not to avow that I am pleased with your favorable opinion of my Administration, and fervent wishes for my felicity. May the children of the Stock of Abraham, who dwell in this land, continue to merit and enjoy the good will of the other Inhabitants; while every one shall sit in safety under his own vine and figtree, and there shall be none to make him afraid. May the father of all mercies scatter light and not darkness in our paths, and make us all in our several vocations useful here, and in his own due time and way everlastingly happy.
G. Washington
But Sarah isn't done demonstrating her unfitness for the presidency (or any other elected office, for that matter). Another gem of a tweet:
Mr. President, why are they so set on marking an area w/ mosque steps from what you described, in agreement with many, as "hallowed ground"?
Someone so ignorant about the attacks of September 11, 2001, has no business representing the United States of America.
Anyone who believes that our country was attacked by Islam and therefore is currently at war with Islam is wholly unfit to lead America.
A peace-oriented mosque cannot and does not violate the hallowed ground where 2,976 people were murdered by al-Qaeda terrorists. By not understanding this, Sarah Palin dishonors both history and American values--as well as undermines our national security by giving the terrorists exactly what they want: the ability to recruit Muslims by telling them that the U.S. is at war with Islam.
Sarah Palin's election would send that exact message to the world. And Americans would suffer the logical price.
The same goes for Newt Gingrich and Tim Pawlenty. Any other potential GOP nominees want to join that list?
President Obama fulfilled his duty--both to defend the Constitution and to advance our national security--by speaking forcefully about American pluralism and honestly about who we are fighting and who we are not. This is a threshold standard that anyone seeking the presidency must meet.
