Hey, Liz Cheney and the rest of you at "Keep America Safe, I have a suggestion for what you can do with this:
How about running this tear-jerker ad about never forgetting 9/11 to convince all the Republicans that they need to truly support the survivors and heroes of 9/11 by providing for their health care. That's Speaker Nancy Pelosi's idea.
While everyone has been parsing her on that investigating the mosque opponents story, her staff sent a statement to Greg Sargent:
"The freedom of religion is a Constitutional right. Where a place of worship is located is a local decision.
"I support the statement made by the Interfaith Alliance that 'We agree with the ADL that there is a need for transparency about who is funding the effort to build this Islamic center. At the same time, we should also ask who is funding the attacks against the construction of the center.'
"For all of those expressing concern about the 9/11 families, we call upon them to join us in support of the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act when Congress returns in September."
She makes one extremely good point: all of those Republicans getting shrill on behalf of the 9/11 families because of the Cordoba House need to shut up and vote for the 9/11 Health and Compensation Act. They blocked the bill in May, and blocked it again in July. They called taking care of the health problems of 9/11 survivors, including the heroes who were the first responders, an "entitlement program."
If Democrats are going to continue to be sucked into this controversy, this needs to be their only response to Republicans: "You care so much about the 9/11 victims, put your money--and your vote--where your mouth is and where it really counts."
