Alaska's primary election is this upcoming Tuesday. If you live in Alaska, remember to vote. If you live elsewhere, consider donating to a worthy Democratic Alaska candidate.
My top recommendation for donations from Kossocks is Scott McAdams, 39, a credible Democratic Senate candidate, Mayor of Sitka, an "unapoligetic Democrat" who attended Netroots Nation and in his words "is way more liberal than Senator Begich". See for yourself his public take on positions http://scottmcadams.org Scott is the real deal, an authentic Alaskan, who eloquently challenges the positions taken by Alaska's sorry Sen. Lisa Murkowski.
There are three Democrats in this primary, but McAdams, who has Alaska Democratic Party's rare endorsement in a primary is expected to win the primary. He will be running (he says) against either tea-party candidate Joe Miller (popular with many Alaska conservatives) or Sen. Lisa Murkowski. I say he will be running against well-funded Lisa Murkowski.
If Kossacks want to see a tsunami change in the U.S. Senate, support Scott McAdams with multiple donations over the next couple of months.
Other candidates and issues of interest in the upcoming Alaska elections.
"Give 'em hell, Harry." Harry Crawford is the Democratic candidate running for the Congressional seat held by Rep. Don Young.
Both Democratic candidates running for Governor, Ethan Berkowitz and Hollis French, are far superior to Sarah Palin's successor Sean Parnell. My personal endorsement goes to Hollis French for his intelligence, hard-work, self-effacing sense of humor, respectful treatment of every person, and willing to hold the line on appropriate taxation for oil and gas development. Berkowitz wants to smooth the way for more energy development by easing up on the industrial taxes.
There are two initiatives on the primary ballot, designed to lure out Libertarian and Republican voters.
#1 Badly worded so-called "anti-corruption" initiative would actually limit free speech rights of many Alaskans working on behalf of legitimate issues.
#2 "Parental rights" initiative put government smack in the middle of important physician medical decisions.
I am voting NO on both of these. And hope other Alaskans will also.
