Democrat backed by Obama wins Senate nomination in Florida
That is a real headline and sub from the Chicago Tribune this morning. Page 12 in the Nation and World section, by M. Barabak.
The first paragraph is all about Democrat Kendrick Meek fending off an onslaught. Meanwhile, Republican Rick Scott defeated for the gubernatorial nod.
The article is accompanied by a 4x6" picture of Insurgent Kendrick Meek.
The title of this article certainly caught my eye. I wondered just why Insurgents would have anything to do with U.S. primary races.
Up until now, I don't recall seeing the word insurgent used for anything in our MSM but an alternative to terrorist or enemy in our wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Up until this headline, I think I'd be safe to assume most people would have Muslim or Arab pop into their head when they see that word in a headline. We've had late-minute surges in the polls and stuff like that, but none of the candidates have been insurgents. They've been candidates or upstarts or 'big winners on the night.'
So, is this going to be the new scam? Are Democratic candidates going to be called "Insurgents" from now on by right wing publications? Now that our country, formed by insurgents (freedom fighters!) against England, has been indoctrinated into looking at the word as a negative, bad thing; are we going to start seeing it used against a political party we don't like?
Because, if that's the case, then I'd like to see a Democratic candidate using it the next time I see it. Maybe Scott or Miller can be insurgents, too.
