Republicans -- already culled down to a mere 41 Senate seats -- are getting eaten alive this election season by the Tea Party. Despite the hype of rosy GOP prospects, it's like GOP politicos are feebly succombing to brain-eating zombies.
- Yesterday Alaska was attacked by brain-eating zombies and has very likely replaced "safe incumbent" Lisa Murkowski with rival Tea Party-infected loon Joe Miller. Similar zombie attacks have already occured in Utah, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Nevada.
And make no mistake, like Sharron Angle in Nevada, Joe Miller is loony, extreme, and proud of it. And like Sharron Angle in Nevada, Joe Miller gives Democrats a chance in a state that would have otherwise been a very steep climb.
Joe Miller on the Tea Party:
"Polling reflects (the Tea Party's) mainstream. I mean, more people agree with the Tea Party than agree with Obama."
Joe Miller on climate change:
"The science supporting manmade climate change is inconclusive...Should we take drastic measures to combat something that may not even exist...?"
Joe Miller on restricting reproductive rights:
Miller ... opposes abortion even in the cases of rape and incest, a view far to the right of the mainstream of the GOP.
Joe Miller on dismantling the safety net:
"So I guess the message that I'm trying to get across here is that constitutional ignorance leads us into the scenario that we've got today. It leads us into thinking that the federal government is our umbrella insurance policy, ya know, if all goes wrong the feds are there to pick up the pieces -- whether it's welfare, healthcare, education, Katrina, you name it, the list goes on and on. And the reality of it is, it is the safety net, that's how people interpret it. But that's not what the constitution says. But still people believe that, hey, if you don't buy insurance, the government's going to be there to take care of you. If you don't want to work, the government's going to be there to pay you. Or, hey, if you want to start a criminal enterprise, the government subsidized ACORN is there to help you out with it."
Democrats' chances in Alaska's Senate race were on almost no one's radar until yesterday, but the Tea Party has changed that.
Some info on Democrat Scott McAdams: Familyman, fisherman, proud Alaskan, proud Democrat, Netroots Nation attendee, mayor of Sitka, and public schools devotee.
McAdams may not be well known yet, but the same could have been said of Joe Miller a few weeks ago.
Alaska Dispatch:
McAdams cited eight years in public office -- he's been mayor for two years and spent six years on the Sitka School Board -- as putting him political light years ahead of Miller, who has never been elected to office. And, he pointed out, Miller ran and lost a legislative race.
"I'm the only candidate in this race who's ever balanced a budget," McAdams said. "I'm the only candidate in this race who ever voted on a budget. I am by far the most experienced candidate in this race."
Progressive Alaska:
McAdams, who has quickly turned Sitka into a model progressive community, replied, "We're going to win this one, I'm confident about that."
(snip)
McAdams, who grew up working at sea from Ketchikan to the Bering Sea, is deeply committed to Alaska's most important sustainable industry.

On the other hand, probable GOP candidate Miller has shown very little grasp or concern about Alaska coastal issues, and people are noticing.
When asked about comparisons between himself and the apparent victor of Alaska's GOP primary, Teabagger Joe Miller, McAdams didn't hold back, describing many of the views Miller holds as antiquated, 19th century thinking.
Mudflats:
Mudflats: So, talk about why you’re a Democrat.
McAdams: How much tape have you got left on this thing?
Mudflats: (looks at thing) I’ve got 33 hours.
McAdams: OK (laughs) ...
Alaska is not a very expensive state to advertise in, so if you have some money to spare, please consider donating to Scott. I donated $40 yesterday.
With brain-eating, Tea Party zombies on the loose, it's now more important than ever that we win this race.
