Blue Dog Democrat Bobby Bright has apparently dodged a question about whether he'd support Nancy Pelosi for Speaker if Democrats win a majority in November because she might "get sick and die." Greg Sargent:
Blue Dog Dem Bobby Bright of Alabama has raised this to a new level, joking to constitutents that Pelosi might "get sick and die" before he has to support her again for Speaker, a local reporter tells me.
The Montgomery Advertiser reports that Bright, who is under fire for supporting Pelosi for Speaker in the past, joked to some voters that Pelosi might fall ill and pass away. The Advertiser only paraphrased Bright's remarks.
So I called the reporter, Cosby Woodruff, and he gave me Bright's actual quote.
Setting aside the ghoulish nature of Bright's dodge, this is hardly anything new from him. Even though Bright likely owes his narrow election to increased Democratic turnout in the 2008 election, he's been the most conservative Democrat in the House. He even expressed sorrow when health care reform passed. Given the partisan composition of his district, he probably doesn't stand a chance in hell of getting re-elected, and given that he hasn't done a single useful thing in his one (and likely only) term in Congress, hopefully the DCCC doesn't waste a dime trying to save his butt.
