First of all, I need to state that I am NOT a Cubs fan that hates on St. Louis. I'm not a White Sox fan either, though I have no problem rooting for both Chicago baseball teams (except when they play each other or my favorite team).
From TPM's David Kurtz, we learn that St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony LaRussa and superstar slugger Albert Pujols will be attending Glen Beck's 8/28 "Restoring Honor" rally. Pujols will be honored and LaRussa will introduce him. More over the jump...
From TPM via St. Louis Dispatch:
... the St. Louis paper, is reporting that Cardinals manager Tony La Russa and star first baseman Albert Pujols (who has a chance to win the Triple Crown this season, which hasn't been done since Carl Yastrzemski pulled it off in 1967 -- but I digress) will be attending. Pujols is being honored at the event, and La Russa is introducing him, the paper reports.
This is the crazy part:
Cardinals manager Tony La Russa, scheduled to introduce Pujols, insisted Thursday that he and Pujols are attending only after receiving assurances that the event is not a thinly disguised political rally.
Really? Are you serious?
"I made it clear when we were approached: I said, 'If it's political, I wouldn't even approach Albert with it.' I don't want to be there if it's political," La Russa said.
La Russa created a minor stir last month when he publicly supported an Arizona statute calling for heightened enforcement against illegal immigrants.
So, apparently, Tony LaRussa is a wingnut. Yuck!
A little more from STL Post Dispatch:
"I made the point several times: What is this about?" La Russa said Thursday, noting an understanding that invitations were 'sent out across party lines, different disciplines, all kinds of stuff.
"I don't know who's going to be there, who's going to accept it. But the gist of the day is not political. I think it's a really good concept, actually."
The rally is expected to include a faith-based message, something that squares with Pujols' commitment to his faith as well as his Pujols Family Foundation.
What a load of crap. Any suggested action we can take?
*** UPDATE ***
Well we are pretty split on action ideas, but that's okay. I think it's usually better to take some action than to just sit here writing angry comments. Hesiod had a good idea about contacting the Pujols Family Foundation to let them know about what kind of divisive rally this will be. Here's the info:
