"I wasn't really that political," said Tom, sitting across from me at the Covington, Kentucky, Drinking Liberally, where we met for a stop on my book tour for "538 Ways to Live, Work and Play Like a Liberal."
I was in disbelief. Sure, plenty of non-political folks come to DL -- but how many are on their Democratic county committee? Tom's an executive member of the party trying to beat the odds and pick up a seat or two in this year's county races.
So I asked him how he went from being non-political to a "party boss" and his answer sounded familiar.
"In 2004, I started reading DailyKos. Here I was in an area where radio was dominated by the right-wing, where the newspaper is an arm of the right-wing...and then I found this blog and realized, 'I'm not alone!'"
That's the story Markos has heard thousands of times and that has created such a vibrant community at DailyKos...and Eschaton...and FireDogLake...and at bars around the country. Liberals, you're not alone. If Tom can find his company here in a conservative corner of the country, you can find yours wherever you are.
Watch out -- they might make you a Party Boss before you know it.
