Yesterday at the mall in DC (I made sure not to go to DC on Saturday), in the Smithsonian (bet they oppose paying taxes for that and I thought my family would be safe from teabaggers in a museum, college or library!!!) we saw one wearing this t-shirt!
Some people dismiss Glenn Beck, after all he is a self-described "circus clown", but so was Ronald Reagan (grade "B" actor) and Sarah Palin (beauty contestant). Don't forget, these credentials appeal widely to the base of the republican party. The quality of "having a beer with..." is the primary determinant for the cable news set, to quote an acquaintance of mine, who voted for Sarah Palin because she was a hockey mom, "I feel like I can trust her because she does some of the same stuff I do." REALLY???!!! The teabaggers slogans were reminding me of the 1950's south (and certainly there wasn't a nonwhite face in the crowd and I would have liked some stock in "mom jeans" and bad haircuts, and minivans with license tags from the Midwest and South). How about the coincidence of the day, the famous MLK speech? I mean are they trying to create racial hatred? duh. Lets be clear and not make some of the same mistakes progressives have made in the past. Take them seriously because they are selling hate. Hate like pre-WWII Germany. Hate like-"its us against them"...I mean what kind of "honor" do they think they are restoring? The honor of stolen elections, faux wars, disasters caused by cronyism, unregulated govt causing economic crisis? It is racism, homophobia, anti-immigration, anti-tax, anti-education....all rolled into one nice little fat white buzz cut.
