Yes siree, it's you and me, it's anyone of us and the country as a whole who find ourselves in one helluva jam. The Everly Brothers and then later Paul Simon so well captured the notion of "oh-oh, we're in trouble now", but cast it in an upbeat melody with the attitude of "Happy days are here again", despite the pickle they're (we're) in.
"Whatta we gonna tell your mama
Whatta we gonna tell your pa..."
Is there an opportunity to "make a silk purse out of a sow's ear", lemons/lemonade, go Pollyanna and "make hay while the sun don't shine"?
Certainly. We can make a go of it. First of all, everyone in this country should have the necessities until the economy gets repaired and unemployment is back down to a reasonable level. That's the first step.
Which is why, the Republicans balking at unemployment insurance and relief for those who have fallen, are falling, and will fall into desperate times-- those Republicans-- deserve to be howled at, execrated, embarrassed into red-faced nincompoops huddling in the corner. For this reason alone, everyone should rise up and keep those jerks out of power.
"The movie wasn’t so hot, it didn’t have much of a plot
We fell asleep, our goose is cooked, our reputation is shot..."
As in most elections, somebody goes out in front early on. Lately, the Republicans have had the edge, but Obama and his consortium of fellow Democrats are on the march and we should see most races tighten, get into the toss up category.
The mainstream media have nearly all climbed on the bandwagon of a Democratic rout in November. But, they aren't reading the polls closely. It's a virtual tie in a lot of areas and if we can get out the vote, we can hold down the fort. Then, worry about what comes next.
So, let's forget about all the ugly possibilities and "Wake up, little Susie, wake up...
"...We gotta go home." That is, take our medicine and clean their clocks. Those greedy, fucking bastards don't deserve to get away with this--
"Whatta we gonna tell our friends when they say 'ooh-la-la'"?
