Everyone said it would never happen, but it is. This election is shaping up to be repeat of that horrible 1994 midterm election, where Democrats lost the House and Senate and were reduced to 19 governorships as well as being decimated in state legislatures and local offices.
People promised it wouldnt happen again. Dozens of reasons were given for this:
- Democrats arent exposed in the South the way they were in 1994.
- Obama doesnt have Clinton's scandals.
- Democrats havent controlled the House for 40 years like in 1994.
- No House bank scandal.
- Healthcare reform passed, unlike in 1994.
- No assault weapons ban to piss off the NRA.
- Democrats didnt raise taxes this time.
I remember how hard we worked in 2006 to build a House majority after 12 years in the wilderness. I had hoped it would last at least 12 years, but instead, it will probably only last four.
People here dont understand that Republicans in control of the House will be more dangerous than Bush and McCain put together.
They will shut down the government in trying to defund healthcare, which is really scaring me, since we worked so hard to pass it earlier this year.
What I feel about this election is an equal mix of fear and downright anger. Fear of what will happen and anger at Obama for making it happen by not going out and defending our accomplishments and the Democratic party.
I am very pissed off to see that our majority is being destroyed after just four years while Republicans got to keep their majority for 12 long years.
And once we lose it, who knows when we will get it back, since Republicans will control redistricting in most states after this election.
