I was going to take a break today, hit the beach and not post a diary; but, a chance look at a political junkie friend's TV gave me an easy dunk.
Joe Miller appeared "Fox News Sunday" today. The Alaska GOP Senate candidate. in the new tradition of GOP candidates, especially those from Alaska, Miller was totally unable to explain his August assertion on CBS's "Face the Nation" that unemployment benefits are unconstitutional. And, if they were, how he proposed to help the 43.6 million Americans in poverty.
Don't know why Joe would have a problem with this. He must have smoked the wrong Tea before his interview with Chris.
Obviously, the Alaska Tea Baggie way to eradicate poverty is for the Federal Government, er, Oil Company, er, oh, whatever you want to call it, to cut a Royalty Check to every US citizen for, among many other things, each citizen's share:
of the royalties for all the mineral wealth extracted from Federal lands
of all the rental fees collected by the Bureau of Land Management
of all the tolls collected on every US highway
of all the postage of a every letter and package delivered by the post office
After all that's what Alaskans do with their oil. So, obviously this approach isn't welfare or the socializms. Why, it must be government capitalizms just like Christopher Columbus's trips to the New World!
Of course, for this bizness to work properly, the government should actually charge the going rate for all the services it performs. Do you realize that the government only charges about a tenth as much to deliver mail for about fifty times as much service as FedEx or UPS? Scandalous! In particular, the government should actually charge corporations and businesses the real costs for the many services it renders them, especially since they seem so reluctant to cover the cost of those services in the traditional manner, you know, by paying taxes.
Maybe, Joe miller will be able to answer the poverty question next time someone asks, regardless of his choice of Tea. as for why Unemployment Benefits might be unconstitutional, I got nothing.
PS Don't ask Sharron Angle about her solution to poverty. It involves expending ammunition.
PPS Off to the beach now. Wonderful what a gimme topic and typing help can do.
