Dear Dems,
Yr doin it wrong!
Okay, I usually dislike these diaries that pretend to have the magic bullet on messaging. But how about this?
There are no tax cuts for the wealthy. There is only the millionaires billionaires bail-out that George W. Bush implemented. Like some of the other infamous bail-outs, it is not necessary, we can't afford it, and they don't deserve it.
We have had nine years of tax cuts for the wealthiest. We actually bailed them out several times -- billions of dollars worth -- as the economy sank. We lost our jobs, giving the wealthiest companies millions of imminently employable people. And yet the economy continued to tank. Unemployment continued to rise! The wealthiest got wealthier. The big corporations stopped hiring, even though they were sitting on cash and inventory.
If the Democratic leadership can't stand a fight about tax cuts before an election, FORGET TAX CUTS. It's about bail-outs. The argument should be that the GOP is supporting yet more bail-outs for the Wall Street crowd, for the largest and most out of touch corporations, and for the wealthiest who have made out like bandits every time a bailout was passed.
Why should Americans be forced to bail-out the richest? They have plenty of money and no plan to jump start the economy. Where certain bail-outs -- the auto industry, for example -- had tangible effects, this billionaires' bailout has no rainbow at the end. Why? BECAUSE IT'S BEEN IN PLACE THE ENTIRE TIME. Throughout the recession. Throughout the Bush presidency. It didn't lift the poor up. The wealthier got fatter. The poor got scraps. The middle class were left holding the bill.
The Billionaires Bail-out must end. Spread the word.
