The House of Representatives gave us a decent healthcare bill complete with a public option. Yes they did. The Senate Democrats and the White House "ademocrats" traded this provision away. Do not make House Representatives ( the tribunes of popular will and Democratic principles than the White House or Senate) pay for the backroom deals that water down adequate legislation in other branches of government. The House lived up to the demands of the left far more faithfully than either the White House or the Senate. The Democratic controlled House of Representatives has out performed other assorted manifestations of Democratic power. Time to stick
up for them especially when they are being battered.
One can conclude that the House of Representative Democrats are the ideological hero's of the last year and a half.
They've passed every piece of progressive legislation we've asked for, I think. A lot more than the Senate anyway.
And it was Pelosi and the leadership of the House who demanded that GM offer a much more complete documentation and report on their situation before approving the bailout. Coupled with their willingness to include a PO in their version of the Healthcare bill I think it would be a disaster to turn on them. Presidents come and go, Senators simply aggrandize power but the core legislation ( the ideological and practical basis of law) comes from the House of Representatives. Lose that and the people lose their most reliable tribune.
According to Nate Silver's Sept 24 average of 100,000 simulation, we only need to win, or flip 7 seats that are currently trending to the GOP to retain the important Speaker of the House title for Pelosi.
And the polls over the last few days, seem to be finally trending in our direction. What Hounddog said!
