It looks like the White House is fired up and already going.
First, news that Vice President Biden is telling Democrats to stop whining (see HamptonRoadsProgressive's diary). Now, President Obama is on the case in an upcoming interview in Rolling Stone. OMG, could this be a coordinated effort by the White House to re-invigorate progressives so they go vote in November. It's nice to see the WH getting it together like this. Too bad they don't do it more often.
More below .....
Admonishing his own party, President Barack Obama says it would be "inexcusable" and "irresponsible" for unenthusiastic Democratic voters to sit out the midterm elections, warning that the consequences could be a squandered agenda for years.
Seems to me, much of the agenda (if someone could tell me what Obama's agenda really is, I'd appreciate it) has been squandered already by the White House and Congressional Dems. That's what you get when you concede your agenda before negotiations with the Republicans start.
The president told Democrats that making change happen is hard and "if people now want to take their ball and go home, that tells me folks weren't serious in the first place."
Seems to me when you cave in to Republicans as your first response you've not bothered to bring your ball to the game to begin with.
"The idea that we've got a lack of enthusiasm in the Democratic base, that people are sitting on their hands complaining, is just irresponsible," he said in the interview.
Couldn't possibly be anything Obama and the Congressional Dems have done to disappoint and piss off the Democratic base or anything. Must be the weather or a virus or something. No reason for it. Did someone say, "public option" or "dilute financial reform" or "tas cut extension cave"?
And the best for last:
Obama expresses plenty of disappointment over how Republicans made a tactical decision from the start to oppose him, but also offers some "grudging admiration" for its political effectiveness in keeping the GOP united.
Bold mine. Complete disgust mine (and others, I assume). Obama reprimands and criticizes progressives and admires Republicans in the same interview. He really just won my heart. The Republican Squeak Toy-in-Chief just won my heart.
You couldn't make this up.
