I've been a member of Daily Kos for a while now and have seldom felt moved to reply and so far never to "diary" my thoughts. The main reason is that I am a little intimidated by the intelligence and writing skills of those who do post here. This site has long been one of my main sources for useful info on just what the heck is going on in Congress and with various campaigns around the nation.
That said, I do feel the need to express some of my feeling about our current situation.
It is becoming increasingly obvious that the enforcement of our nations laws, especially where they relate to business regulation, has become preempted by financial contributions to the elected and unelected alike. This has been said, but little effort has been made to hold those responsible for enforcement accountable for their lack of said enforcement. It is fine to call for investigations and so forth, but where are the lawsuits that hold the judges (U.S. District Judge Martin L.C. Feldman comes immediately to mind, others as well), accountable.
Aren't there actual laws on the book regarding "conflict of interest"? Why are these not applied when such obvious violations occur. At the very least, this judge in particular needs to be removed from the bench and prevented from practicing law in ANY venue. To not do so is an abrogation of the responsibilities of the DOJ. Someone there should be brought to task for the failure to pursue such obvious and flagrant disregard for the law.
Why is it that we give a pass to conservatives, who spend much of their time touting the need for tort reform, when they file frivolous suits against the government and elected officials who are actually trying to do the jobs we elected them to do? There has been only one (Orly Taitz) that I know of that has actually been called on her lunacy and even she has so far gotten a major pass by being allowed to submit her appeal twice to the Supreme Court. They (the conservatives) whine and complain when valid legal issues are raised against them, then turn around and game the courts in a blatant attempt to get headlines for themselves, knowing full well that their cases will be dropped all anyone will hear about is the accusations rather than the fact that they were dismissed by the courts. (exceptions being when that dismissal can be used to point and say "See! Activist judges!")
The bottom line here, at least for me is that we need desperately to fix the Justice Department. A full house cleaning is in order but nothing is being done about it. I don't know who can do it; I do know that I am simply an unemployed 55 year old veteran with no standing at all to bring such cases. But whoever is responsible for fixing this is NOT doing their job.
I would love to hear from some of the great policy wonks here at Daily Kos as to what can be done in this regard and who can do it. Thank you for reading my ramblings, and may you all Blessed Be!
