Everyone here knows (or should know by now) the name of Rep. Alan Grayson (FL-08).
What most of you don't know (I didn't find out until today myself, so don't feel bad...) is that there are a couple of adventurous Producers who have started a project called:
Street Fighting Man: The Political Mind of Alan Grayson
This link is to the YouTube.com version of their Trailer (in HD!)
See the embedded clip below the fold...
Rep. Alan Grayson has been making quite a name for himself, as a freshman Congressman from the State of Florida.
I'd bet that at least 50 out of 100 American voters have seen, or heard, the video clips of the congressman saying on the Floor of the US House that the Republican plan for healthcare was "Don't get sick. If you do, die quickly."
Alan Grayson has continued to stir the political stew from his 8th District of Florida (the Kissimmee/Orlando area), much to the delight of outspoken progressives across the country.
Two movie producers found him, and his re-election campaign, to be of such interest, that they've started a documentary about it.
Here's the first trailer for Street Fighting Man: The Political Mind of Alan Grayson
This documentary is being produced under the Kickstarter umbrella. It's an capital/fundraising for projects organization.
Now, here's the part where you, dear reader, can get your name on the big screen as a PRODUCER. Srsly.
This project has a capital/fundraising target of $15,000 - and they only have 17 more days to hit that target, to complete this documentary. To date, they've raised $1,520 (from 25 backers). That's only about 10% of what they need to finish this project.
From the project website:
This project will only be funded if at least $15,000 is pledged by Sunday Oct 17, 7:07pm EDT.
From the project page:
The filmmakers have all ready spent some $10,000 of their own money and shot some 50 hours of footage. They want to raise another $15,000, so they can go back to Orlando in early September to film through the election on November 2, 2010.
Here’s What Your Money Will Be Used For:
- A second camera, tripod, sound kit, and mobile lighting kit to achieve our artistic vision
-A local crew consisting of cinematographer and two production assistants.
- Lodging for the director and producer
- Food, gas and incidental expenses for production crew
The Kickstarter page for the documentary shows a list of 'investment' level 'benefits'.
For a mere $100 you could have your name on the documentary website AND listed in the credits as a Producer.
Just like Michael Moore on Farenheit 911.
Imagine that. You could add "movie producer" to your resume, and not be a liar!
They are also taking 'investments' as small as $1.
I urge you, watch the clip and consider whether providing some funding dollars for this project will advance the causes that Rep. Alan Grayson supports (causes which many kossacks also support).
Who knows, maybe next year, Jeff Cowan (Director/Producer) and Christopher Sprinkle (Producer) will be accepting an award for their work on this project...
UPDATE This is an Independent Documentary with access to the campaign, but not Affiliated with or funded by or run by the Alan Grayson re-election campaign.
Please see the project page for more details on the filmakers.
UPDATE II Look for an upcoming diary by one of the filmakers. He just signed up for a kossack UID today (Welcome!), so it'll be a week before he can get one up... but keep it on your radar!
