Here's an idea for a short and sweet campaign for the upcoming November election. They say a picture is worth 1000 words, so here's what I came up with as an idea to grab the attention of the bigoted, ignorant, ill-informed or misled... you know... those folks that want to vote Republican.
... a picture stating in absolute terms that a vote for a republican is a vote against one's own self interest.
What'cha think?
I toyed around with the idea of stylizing the image, maybe making it a simple graphic like a street sign, or even going classic Obama poster. I also considered something a bit more graphic or bloody... but after a quick google of images, I thought this one I found looked about perfect.
I guess the image would be expanded with bullet points like
* FEWER JOBS
* CRUMMY ECONOMY
* EXPENSIVE HEALTH CARE
* LOWER TAXES
* LONGER WAR
* FEWER FREEDOMS
.. but besides being too much to fit, I don't want to dilute the message. Unless you're making millions, chances are a vote for a republican is against your own self interest. That's the message, so that's the picture.
I came up with this after talking to a friend a few days ago about the phenomenon of 'Sweet Lemons', and how in this case a owner of a small business was still spouting neo-con crap even though his business is on the point of failure, due in no small part from the health care crisis and the wreck of the economy thanks to Bush & Chaney. He was making 'sweet lemons' in his head out of the idiocy from the far right.
....'Sweet Lemons' from the Urban Dictionary:
It means making the best of an undeniably bad situation, even if it involves complete and utter denial, mixing lemons with cuploads of sugar until they actually taste sweet. It is essentially the equal opposite of sour grapes.
In other respects, this person is pretty bright. I've got to believe that not everyone who is voting Republican is too STUPID to comprehend what's going on. Certainly there are some, who like the small business owner, at some level must understand just how BAD Republicans and neo-con policy are for the country (and for themselves), but they choose to remain in complete denial. I guess they've shut down that part of their brain that processes logic and reason.
So - to get their attention... an IMAGE and a MESSAGE:
Go ahead... vote republican... and shoot yourself in the foot!
Feel free to run with this idea if anyone want to use it or expand upon it, be my guest.
