For the past 100 years, there have been a number of political assassinations in this nation. All of the dead are Democrats.
It's always democrats who end up dying. I'll list them below.
Anton Cermak, 1933, mayor of Chicago, murdered in Miami when shot by the attempted assassin of FDR.
Huey Long, 1935, Governor of Louisiana.
Albert Patterson, 1954, Attorney-General Elect of Alabama.
John F. Kennedy 1963, president of the United States.
Robert F Kennedy 1968, Candidate for President of the United States.
Harvey Milk 1978, first elected openly homosexual man.
George Moscone 1978, mayor of San Fransisco, friend of Harvey Milk.
Leo Ryan, 1978, US Congressman murdered by fanatic cultists in Guyana.
Allard K. Lowenstein, 1980, Former Democratic Congressman.
Tommy Burks, 1998, Tennessee Senator murdered by his republican opponent.
James E. Davis, 2003, democratic councilman murdered in New York City Hall.
Bill Gwatney, 2008, chairmen of the Arkansas Democratic Party, murdered at party headquarters in Little Rock.
John Thornton mayor of Washington Park, Illinois.
And now an attempt on Congresswoman Giffords.
It was a terrorist attack, a political attack, and the part of the continued history of right wing political violence in the United States.
This is the reality of right wing activism.
Edit:
There are countless more dead liberals. Fizziks rightly pointed out: Martin Luther King. And Medgar Evars and the rest of the martyrs of the civil rights movement should be listed as the victims of right wing terror.
From PJBurke:
Alan Berg was not a politician, but rather an outspoken liberal on the radio in the days before media consolidation gave a small cabal the opportunity to banish the liberal viewpoint from the talk radio airwaves altogether.
Alan Berg was gunned down in his own driveway by white nationalists:
