Or is it just me? I'm about as liberal as they come. I believe we should look after each other and that sometimes people just need a hand to get through the rough spots. In conversations with like-minded acquaintances regarding the health care debate, unemployment comp, etc., we wonder how can the right be so cruel, so heartless, so greedy. So, here is my struggle.
I find I am a greedy person. Don't get me wrong, I fight it. But I am still greedy. We order a pizza, we all have some and one piece is left. I want it. I don't need it, but I want it. I can think of several other similar comparisons but food is an easy analogy so let's stick with that. I'm not talking envy or coveting someone's possession, I'm talking about something more or less up for grabs, like on the buffet table. The last shrimp - who gets it? I want it.
I'm going to make an assumption that the majority of you have similar beliefs as me or we all wouldn't be hanging out at Kos reading diaries. Since I'm too embarrassed to admit to my friends and family my greedy tendencies (especially considering my uber-liberal reputation), I'll ask you guys. Do you struggle with this or is it easy for you to walk away from that table leaving the shrimp for someone who needs them more than you do? Or does the little voice in your soul have to battle the greedy beast in your gut who's dying to grab it. And is it possible that the people on the right, the ones who don't believe in universal health coverage or unemployment benefits or daycare credits, do they ignore their little voice? Or maybe they don't have one. Just wonderin'.
