The Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) has submitted a proposal for this Pepsi Project called "Make 10,000 Schools Safer for LGBT Youth". GLSEN is the leading national education organization focused on ensuring safe schools for all students. GLSEN envisions a world in which every child learns to respect and accept all people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression.
Take a look below at the overview of their grant request to the Pepsi Refresh Project and please vote today. TODAY IS THE LAST DAY TO VOTE FOR THIS VITAL PROJECT!
Overview
GLSEN launched the Safe Space Campaign late last year to place a Safe Space Kit in every middle and high school in the United States - more than 100,000 schools.
Nine out of 10 LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) students experienced harassment at school in the past year. LGBT students who can identify supportive adults in their school are less likely to feel unsafe at school, are more likely to plan to graduate and go on to college, and are more likely to feel connected to the school community.
The GLSEN Safe Space Kit provides resources for educators to create a safe and affirming space for LGBT students. It includes a 42-page guide that provides concrete strategies for addressing anti-LGBT bias and behavior and supporting LGBT students, as well as 10 Safe Space stickers and two Safe Space posters.
Help us come 10,000 schools closer to our goal of making sure that every student has a safe space in school.
How will the 250K be Used?
$ 200,000 Distribution of Safe Space Kits to 10,000 Schools
