Just got this off Twitter:
http://mediaite.com/...
According to the CBS statement, Logan “was covering the jubilation in Tahrir Square for a 60 Minutes story when she and her team and their security were surrounded by a dangerous element amidst the celebration.” Logan was separated from the CBS crew and security team and attacked:
"She was surrounded and suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers. She reconnected with the CBS team, returned to her hotel and returned to the United States on the first flight the next morning. She is currently in the hospital recovering."
Obviously a very sad and tragic part of the overall Egypt story of the last few weeks, and a reminder of the great peril journalists often find themselves in. My prayers are with Lara and her loved ones.
EDIT: Several of the responses here criticized my use of quote marks around "sexual assault" in the headline -- it was merely to directly quote what the initial report said happened to Logan, and in NO way was meant ironically or to diminish what happened. I have removed the quote marks from the headline, and I apologize to anybody who was truly offended.
