I am a firm believer in Godwins Law, which for the uninitiated is the unofficial rule that only Hitler is Hitler, and bringing up the Nazis only defeats your end of the argument.
Now however in my view calling someone a Fascist is perfectly fair as Fascism is a legitimate albeit twisted and crooked political ideology.
Whenever I use the term Fascist to describe someone like Scott Walker people accuse me of being hyperbolic. The notion that The Republican Party's corporatist agenda is nothing more than 21st Century Fascism is just not something the public is wanting to hear. Just suggesting that gets many people to roll their eyes at you because in their minds "This is America, we don't have fascists."
Really? The smoking gun is here, as if the evidence hasn't already been mounted against them. By overplaying his hand this week, Scott Walker exposed The Republican's nationwide conspiracy to enforce a Fascist agenda on this country. As we all know it's not about Wisconsin's budget, it is about smashing what's left of American organized labour into oblivion. Organized labour is the one major opponent they have left that can actually fight back with teeth. The Right Wing already has their brainwashed masses, apathetic public and campaign financing laws right where they want it. Now they are going in for the final blow.
The Tea Baggers are clearly a lost cause. You could tell them President Obama said the sky was blue and then they would scream otherwise. So how do we convince those "all important" independents of what is going on? In some respects they are enablers of The Right as they sit on the fence with their finger in the air waiting to see where the wind blows. These are the people who voted for George W. Bush because they wanted to have a beer with him (Ironically ignoring the fact the guy is a alcoholic.)
How do we say to them "Okay, it's time to turn of Sportscenter and pay a little more attention to C-Span?"
Better yet what do we do about all those lazy bums in this country that can't find time to vote. The ones who like to pretend that their vote wouldn't matter, and that it's just a fight between a douche and a turd. That it doesn't make a difference who you vote for. I STILL have people telling me that it wouldn't have made any difference if Al Gore was President over George W Bush. What kind of detached world do they live in? Why are they so thick that they can't connect the dots? The worst ones are those who say "Well I am not really into politics." Like somehow politics is the NBA and that if you ignore it then it simply has no effect on you. They talk about having more important things to worry about such as working two jobs, making rent, getting food on the table, paying for gas, etc. Not realizing that voting has an impact on making those issues. How do we tell them they are getting screwed due to the fact that they don't care? They then try to absolve themselves of any blame by going after The Government and saying "Well they're all assholes. What difference does it make?"
Getting these people not to care was one of the biggest boons to The Republican's Fascist Agenda. The Republicans knew they could only brainwash a third of the country, so they had to get another third to just shuck its responsibility and check on out. When that happens they can go after The Democrats full bore, destroy Unions, enforce what they view as standards of morality, enforce their regressive economic views and systematically dismantle this country all for the benefit of their small Bourgeois.
I apologize for the longwinded posting. It's just an issue that has been frustrating me to no end and I figured writing about it would help relieve that frustration in a positive manner, well that and a punching bag.
