I saw this today:
Man Tattoos Leviticus 18:22 That Forbids Homosexuality On His Arm, But Leviticus 19:28 Forbids Tattoos
For years, the right wing has been trying to get us to use the word "homosexual" rather than "gay." It didn't work quite so well in this particular case:
OutSports comes up with this bit of news this morning: Tyson Gay, who ran the fastest recorded time in history in the 100 meters on Sunday, was referred to as Tyson Homosexual in several headlines on the site OneNewsNow; which is run by the extreme right-wing American Family Association in Tupelo, Miss.
My 2nd favorite, is still this video:
I'll share my very favorite at the end of this.
Of course, there's also two pieces by jpmassar:
First, NOM Supporter Denies Star Trek's Data The Right to Marry, in which the subject of Androids, marriage and homosexuality are woven together in fashions we can not possibly comprehend.
And second, there is also NOM effectively swaying someone to our side:
Maryland Sen. James Brochin (D-Baltimore County) on Thursday confirmed his intention to vote for a same-sex marriage bill, putting supporters of the legislation within striking distance of Senate passage.
[...]
Brochin said his change in position was a result of Tuesday's bill hearing in front of the Judicial Proceedings Committee, on which he serves. The panel is expected to vote next week to send the bill to the floor.
Brochin called testimony from same-sex marriage opponents "appalling and disgusting. ... I just heard hate and venom coming out of that hearing."
So that's precious in its own way.
And we can't possibly forget the dangers of Tinky Winky:
The Reverend Jerry Falwell, a former spokesman for America's Moral Majority, has denounced the BBC TV children's show. He says it does not provide a good role model for children because Tinky Winky is gay.
Not content to go after just Tinky Winky, John Dobson decided that Spongebob Squarepants was a little "light in the porifera," if you know what I mean.
But my favorite, ever, instance of great moments in homophobia is one I, sadly, can not find the clip for. It's something that I saw in the mid-1990s on, if you can believe it, C-Span.
For those of you unfamiliar with the Eagle Forum, it is Phyllis Schlafly's "pro-family" group. Schafly was opposed to the equal rights amendment because she thought it would pave the way for gay weddings.
The Eagle Forum is rabidly homophobic and anti-sex in general.
So imagine, if you will, Al Franken paying them a visit. Not today's professional senatorial Al Franken, but the Al Franken of the 1990's who had an intensely wicked sense of humor and knew how to focus it on people who clearly did not see him coming.
He created one of the funniest segments I've ever seen on the Eagle Forum by interacting with them and seeing their reactions to a very simple question.
That question?
"Have you ever had a heterosexual experience?"
Yes. Al Franken got people at the Eagle Forum, clearly terrified of having anything to do with anything sexual, to deny having ever had a heterosexual experience.
And there's no. Clip. Of. This. Anywhere.
Oh well.
So I invite you all to share you own great moments in homophobia. What bizarre and twisted forms has it taken for you?
