What a busy and crucial week in Annapolis.... From the AP on the latest for the Dream Act:
A bill allowing children of illegal immigrants to pay in-state tuition rates at Maryland colleges is scheduled to be taken up by the state Senate in the middle of the week.
Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller said Monday night he's expecting a great deal of debate and a lot of proposed amendments to the legislation.
Miller, D-Calvert, says the bill will come up on Wednesday. He says the Senate could have two sessions on that day, because of the length of debate.
.
And from WAMU:
The Maryland Senate is scheduled to take up a bill this week that would allow the children of illegal immigrants to pay in-state tuition rates at state colleges. A group of students who support the legislation have been rallying in Annapolis....
The students did more than just chant "Yes we can! Yes we can!" in Spanish outside the state capital, they also met with legislators to explain the challenges of paying out-of-state tuition.
And from the Post:
In the Senate, where debate begins Wednesday, the bill's sponsor, Sen. Victor Ramirez (D-Prince George's), said he expects the measure will have the backing of a majority of legislators. But he is not certain there are 29 votes needed to cut off debate if opponents attempt to filibuster.
Hang on, it will be a bumpy week. And do help post info here on any good resources for supporting the Dream Act....
