Today is usually the day when I plan my weekly menu to get a firmer control on my grocery budget. I'll spend most of the morning looking for delicious recipes to make and experiment with. It also doesn't hurt to watch the Cooking Channel while web-surfing :-)
One of the shows on the Cooking Channel is the Extra Virgin show with Debi Mazar and her husband, Gabriele Corcos. They made this dish that looked very intriguing to me called "Sausages with Fagioli All'uccelletta."
I've never really cooked with sausages before, and the only problem with the recipe for me is the beans. I detest beans, but am okay with garbanzo beans. I've never tasted cannelli beans, so I don't know if they're similar in taste. The thing about beans I don't like is the muddy taste, and I don't find that in garbanzo beans. Is cannelli beans like garbanzo beans or does it have that muddy taste? I ask you this, because my husband's been clamoring for a dish made with beans, and he's tired of garbanzo beans.
I'm willing to branch out and give it a try with this recipe. I need to be a lot more adventurous in trying new things, and it's one of the things I promised myself I would do this spring.
Other than this recipe, I found another one that I'd love to make, but switch out the zucchinni for tomatoes. It's the "Zucchinni and Ricotta Galette" by Deb Perelman from Smitten Kitchen. I might make this on Tuesday night for dinner.
So far, here's my weekly menu:
Sunday night:
New York Strip Steaks
Sauteed Spinach w/ garlic and red pepper flakes
Monday night
Sausages with Fagioli All'uccelletta
Tuesday night
Tomato and Ricotta Galette
Wednesday night
Antipasto dinner
Sliced salami or proscuitto, olives, cheese, and crackers
Thursday night
Lemon Panko Chicken Breasts
Roasted potatoes
Friday night
Torchy's Damn Good Tacos
What's "Torchy's Damn Good Tacos?" It's our favorite taco place here in Austin. My husband loves Mr. Pink and the Crossroads tacos, and me, well....I love the Fried Avocado without beans and the Trailer Park taco. The tacos are awesome, and so is the green chile queso which we always get whenever we go there.
So if you're ever in Austin, don't leave without trying Torchy's. You won't regret it :-)
So, what do your weekly menus for this week look like? What are you guys planning to make?
