17 days PRIOR to President Obama voting "yes" for the UN to impose a No-Fly Zone:
On March 1, 2011 the US Senate passed S. Res 85 with "Unanimous Consent"
"S. Res 85 - (Again, 3/1/11 passed with unanimous consent)
The US Senate ... (7) urges the United Nations Security Council to take such further action as may be necessary to protect civilians in Libya from attack, including the possible imposition of a no-fly zone over Libyan territory;"
Meaning; Pres Obama DID have "Consent" from Congress for No-Fly Zone 17 days Prior to going in.
Perhaps Rand Paul and the other Senators complaining & falsely claiming that "President Obama unilaterally started a war without any consent from Congress" forgot they voted YEA? -Call and remind them that they did, in fact, vote Yea.
I ask you all to call because yesterday a friend of mine told me that called Rand Paul's office and she spoke with a woman named, Jillian and here's what went down:
Jillian told my friend that Sen. Paul had not read the S. Res 85 before giving his consent
... hmm... I thought those baggers were demanding Congress read Bills & Resolutions PRIOR to agreeing to them or consenting to them.
Anyway, my friend asked why Paul voted "yea" to "consent" to Res.85 before he read it and Jillian said, the democrats "were sneaky and had not written Res 85 before they asked for 'Unanimous Consent'"
...... hmmm ... that would mean Rand Paul voted "Yea" on a Resolution without reading it because -- it hadn't been written? hmmm....
My friend asked how were the democrats "sneaky" when Rand could have easily "objected" and then the Res. would not have passed via "Unanimous Consent" and would have thus been required to have a "roll call vote" with "unlimited debate?" Jillian said, "it happened so fast he could not object" ... huh? huh?
Naturally, my friend asked, "Since when can a Senator NOT 'object' under "unanimous consent" request?
That's when Jillian started grabbing at any straw she could saying things jumbled up and incoherent:
Jillian said, "Resolutions are not binding" ... huh?
"Resolutions aren't laws" ... um - really? Since when?
"Resolutions have no meaning" ... huh? That's a new twist.
"Rand Paul did not consent" ... the record shows he DID give "consent"
Ok, for the record, (and I hope Jillian reads this so she can learn some facts about "unanimous consent" & Resolutions)
UNANIMOUS CONSENT:
A Senator requests a "Unanimous Consent vote" for damn near every single bill and/or resolution.
IF: Even one Senator 'objects' to "unanimous consent"
THEN: The Bill/Resolution goes to the Floor for a "Roll Call Vote" and with unlimited Debate Time.
IF: A Bill or Resolution passes with "unanimous consent"
THEN: Every single US Senator voted "YEA" on the Bill/Resolution and there is no need for a "Roll Call Vote" because every Senator voted "yea" and did not need to, nor chose to, "debate"
RESOLUTIONS:
I don't know of any Resolution that ever passed via "unanimous consent" that was not 'law' and was not 'binding'
I can list recent "Resolutions" that are law and are binding.
- Continuing Resolution
- Iraq No-Fly Zone Resolution
- Iraq War Resolution
- Byrd Hagel Resolution
Resolutions are law and are legally binding.
Once Again, I ask:
Call Rand Paul's office & tell him to stop lying about his own Yea Vote for the "Consent" to the Libyan No-Fly Zone.

For some factual background that led up to Senate Resolution 85:
1. 2/25/2011 US gets all Americans out of Libya
2. 2/25/2011 Washington Post Jackson Diehl tweets: "I hear Obama administration has asked for contingency planning on a no-fly zone for #Libya"
3. 2/28/2011 Hillary Clinton was in Geneva meeting with Britain & other US Allies discussing No-Fly zone over Libya.
4. 2/28/2011 The Financial Times Reported, "American planes and warships are being deployed close to Libya as the U.S. and its allies consider establishing a no-fly zone"
5. 3/1/2011 Sec Clinton told Senate Select Committee on Intelligence
"The U.S. must lead an international response to the crisis, including
expanding already tough financial and travel sanctions against
Gadhafi, his family and confidants and possibly imposing a no-fly zone
over Libya."
6. 3/1/2011 Sec. Gates told Congress that imposing a No-Fly Zone would involve Military action."
7. 3/1/2011
On March 1, 2011 the US Senate passed, with Unanimous Consent S. Resolution 85 which, among other things stated,
"S. Res 85 - (3/1/11 passed with unanimous consent)
The US Senate ... (7) urges the United Nations Security Council to take such further action as may be necessary to protect civilians in Libya from attack, including the possible imposition of a no-fly zone over Libyan territory;"
8. 17 days later - March 18, 2011 President Obama and the UN vote to impose a No-Fly Zone over Libya
It's a no-brainer -
- 17 days PRIOR to President Obama agreeing to aid the UN on imposing a No-Fly Zone, every single US Senator gave "consent" to and urged the UN to impose a No-Fly Zone.
