In the process of separating Church and State, we have also separated ourselves from God. We have taken God completely out of the equation. That’s why so many in the Middle East think we’re an evil, Godless nation. If the U.S. were a theocracy, the Ten Commandments would be the law of the land. They would be enforceable in a court of law. But they are not.
If the Ten Commandments are taken out of government, then they must exist in the hearts of the governed, and in the hearts of legislators and judges. But they do not.
The mortgage meltdown was caused by violating the commandment against bearing false witness. Rising gas prices at the pump are the result of the covetousness and greed of the Wall Street crowd, the futures traders.
Big business is proud of its spirit of competition, but when some players refuse to recognize the existence of rules and refuse to be bound by any at all, no game can be played, and the result is chaos and the endless discord we see around us.
If God is not in the law, then God must be in the lawyer. If God is not in Government, then He must be in the legislators and the judges. Obviously He is not. That’s why so many people in the world see us as a Godless people. We are!
Our legislators tell deliberate, out-and-out lies with impunity. For example, consider Grassley telling his constituents that the government has death panels, and that they should be afraid of their government. Consider also Bachmann saying that we should arm ourselves against a possible government takeover, and that the government had secret indoctrination camps. And then there’s Cantor telling that lie about how the legislative process works, that a bill does not need the President’s signature in order to become law. And Kyle’s tardy admission that his words were not intended to be factual. Those are just a few selections from the latest crop of Conservative lies.
Moreover, under our current laws, political contributions amount to legalized bribery. We not only condone but we actually encourage lying, cheating and stealing on a national scale.
That‘s what happens when you take God out of government and then ignore Him altogether. It’s no mere coincidence that the causes of the near collapse of our economy are also sins and vices.
As the political discourse moves in the direction of basic moral/social values and responsibilities, the question of the role of God in all of this is bound to come up. That’s why the Conservatives are making such an issue of abortion and ‘family values.’
On the other side, Liberals are pointing out the heartless cruelty of denying health care to 9/11 first responders and wounded military personnel, just so we can give more money to corporations, corporate executive bonuses and lobbyists.
As events unfold, it’s becoming clearer that the Conservative Right values money over people. In their hearts, covetousness and greed have crowded out charity and compassion. They have discarded God.
On the other hand, the Liberal Left wants a fair, equitable and honest government that serves all citizens equally.
It doesn’t take much of a mental stretch to see us locked in this battle of good v.s. evil that John describes in the Book of Revelation, except that the battle is spiritual, not physical. Conservatives and Liberals are literally fighting for the very soul of our nation at this very moment.
Conservatives take the vision of John literally. Liberals see it as an allegorical description of a spiritual battle in which we are presently engaged. Conservatives are fighting in order to prepare the world for the return of Jesus Christ. What these people fail to understand is, first, that Jesus Christ and God the Father are One, and They never left. They’ve been here since the big bang. He has not left. Some of us have simply chosen to toss Him out, to totally ignore Him.
Secondly, we have the words of The Man Himself. Jesus Christ said, clearly and succinctly, ‘My kingdom is not of this world.’ There you go! First of all there is no need for His return because he never left and second, the Earth is not the eternal kingdom He spoke of.
If you don’t understand that, you may be tempted to buy up a lot of guns and ammunition, and go crawling around in the woods with some local paramilitary militia group, preparing to shoot anyone coming from the Federal government.
All of these problems are bound to occur when you separate God and State, and then discard God. Fortunately, the public discourse is continuing to move toward a more frank discussion of the kind of fundamental values that we want to see in our vision of America. What kind of country do we want? Is it one ruled by Godless Darwinian Capitalism, with its perpetual destructive, no holds barred battle for domination, for life and money, or is it one of peace, cooperation, charity and true compassion for the least among us? It’s all coming down to that. This is the great battle between good and evil that John wrote of in the Book of Revelation.
We’re in that battle right now. We can’t fight it with bullets, bombs or bayonets because evil is a thing of the spirit, and you can’t shoot a pure spirit. Evil is the willing separation of ones’ self from God. It’s inevitably what you end up with when you completely dump God and His Commandments. The good news is that we have already been told what we can do about the problem.
First, we must be the ones out there speaking the truth just as vigorously as the Teabaggers are spreading lies. Theirs is a message that goes against (anti) the fundamental message that Jesus Christ (Christ) preached. They are preaching the message of the Antichrist. That’s what this whole fight boils down to.
The Liberal vision embraces the return of love, compassion, charity and forgiveness. These are the things Jesus Christ said we should do.
Here it is! We are living in a perfect example of that great battle between good and evil. And it’s not a physical battle after all. It’s a spiritual/moral battle for the soul of our nation. Thank God we’ve already been told how to fight it.
We are told to actually live a life that shows Christian principles in action. Jesus Christ was not a couch potato. He walked the walk. He practiced what He preached. It’s as simple as that. Unfortunately, simple to grasp is not always easy to do, but then, to ‘do’ is part of the gig and cannot be left out.
We don’t have to be ostentatious or flashy about it. And in fact, I think it’s much more fun if you’re not. Too much public adulation makes it easy for the ego to get in the way, and you could end up looking like certain Fox News personalities, or worse yet, Donald Trump.
All that is necessary is to speak out against evil, to call it by name when you are confronted by it, and to do all this not in anger, but rather in the spirit of true sympathy and compassion toward one who is separating himself or herself from God. If evil is the total separation from God, then the only way to fight evil is to fill the void with the love of God, which is an infinite love that forgives and embraces all of us.
Analyze all you see and hear in the media, and notice how much of what you see and hear seems to come from the Christian or the Antichristian camp. Bingo! It’s all shaking out pretty much the way John said it would. But we must never forget that it’s not a war with guns that kill people, and bombs that damage real estate. This is good news for the militias, because now they can safely sell all their guns and ammunition, and put their money in gold.
The Christian Camp will win by living Christian Principles. The battle is in full swing. Don’t retreat. Resolve!
